Hi,
It was exciting to talk about item renderers and item editors to a packed room at 360|Flex on Monday morning! I will be posting the recording on this blog as soon as it is available. Every attendee should also have a copy of the presentation on their 360|Flex USB removable hard drive they received. I included a Flex Builder 2.0.1 version of the code for those users who are still using it.

360|Flex API Contest and OpenFlux are the two categories in the newest version of the contest. Another category may be announced soon. The great thing is that you can learn about these great technologies at the show and then create your entries as the deadline is after the show. One thing to note, you can win a PlayStation 3 just for submitting a drawing for a component, if people think the drawing will make a killer component.

There are two more Sunday training sessions soon to be announced. The guys at 360|Flex are just finalizing the details and will post them soon on the conference blog (click ) All Sunday training sessions are free for registered attendees only. Some shows charge $500 just for preconference training. The guys at 360|Flex only charge $480 for the show and throw in the training for free! All you need to do is register for the conference and then send an to email info@360flex.com to let them know which Sunday training you will be attending.

Time for CFUnited again! If you are a ColdFusion Developer and would like to learn more about ColdFusion, then CFUnited is the place for you! Don't worry whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced developer, they have something for everyone here. Although the conference is being held early this year and in a different location, it is a great way to sharpen your skills and meet other developers. This is a conference put on by developers for developers.

I was just reading and listening to a presentation on security from CFUnited 07 (some presentations have audio and powerpoint presentations). I found it interesting how you could hash user passwords. A hash is a one way encryption method and can be used to store passwords in a database, so someone can't just "look up" user passwords in a database. Although the presentation didn't mention it, my room mate was talking about hashing passwords this morning and mentioned adding salt to the hashed password before storing. A salt is a randomly generated number/letter that you add to the user password before hashing. This prevents hackers from hashing common passwords and matching those to the passwords stored in a database. (see 12robots.com for more info).

I am speaking at 360Flex!!

Hi,
I have exciting news! I have a blog now AND I am speaking at 360|Flex being held in San Jose August 18-20 2008!! I will be discussing Using Item Renderers in Flex. There are 47 presentations being given this year. Attendees will be getting some cool shirts this year.

The schedule has been set. The official hotel is the Holiday Inn on 1740 North First Street. All attendees have the option to attend the Free Flex 101 Training given by David Gassner of Lynda.com on Sunday August 17, 2008!

We also need to know what beer you prefer. I was lucky enough to attend 360Flex 2007 and enjoy the wonderful beer on tap. It was one of the highlights of the conference and a great networking time for all!
